Thomas At Twilight

Our good friend, Thomas the cat, still comes by every day.   This time of year, he spends his evening hours hunkered down on our front walkway, monitoring the dogs who go by.

Once it gets dark, he moves on.

Walking In The Neighborhood

My daughter stopped by yesterday and took me along for a walk in the neighborhood.   That's one of my favorite homes, above, a classic beach cottage at the top of the hill, remodeled by one of my best friends some 30 years ago and still looking good.

Grapes are growing along a chain link fence.  Below, looking down a tropical driveway.

A quick trip north yesterday to our country's 2nd largest city.

During a brief stop at a roadside park, we were surprised to see a solitary crane standing in the dappled shade of small stand of trees.

Up And Down

The funicular has been going up and down the hill since the 1880s.  Prior to that, service was by rickshaw.

Below, the view from half way up.

More Walking Around

Early morning city streets, with vendors just setting out their merchandise for the day.

Markets were set up along stairways and in alleys.

The city was built half way up the hill.

Bamboo scaffolding was ubiquitous.

In A Temple

Carved lacquer doors,

urns of incense,

burning overhead coils of incense,

and altars with floral and fruit offerings.
