A favorite Christmas tradition - a hand embroidered kitchen towel made by my daughter, with one of her signature folkloric designs.
More ornaments, enjoyed again and again for just a few weeks at a time, until they're carefully packed away for another year.
Chocolate ice cream for lunch, which makes good sense when you've had Almond Roca and peppermint bark for breakfast!

A perfect Christmas morning - new socks, a bouquet of roses, and a walk on the beach with my daughter and her godmother.
Scores of Christmas out-of-towners were drawn to the shore by clear blue skies, medium tides and mid 70 degree weather.
Only a few neighborhood stores were open for business.
One of the trees, hung with Italian, Czech, Polish and German blown glass ornaments collected over the years.

We had a torrential downpour yesterday - much needed and most welcome.
Meanwhile, inside, Christmas is as usual very colorful here.
We bring out the boxes, unwrap the ornaments, hang on the trees (the more, the merrier), assemble on the mantel and enjoy!

My daughter took me along for a walk on the beach yesterday evening while she went for a surf. The waves were small, barely throwing any spray on the jetty.
It was that time of day when shadows grow long and light turns golden.
Brown pelicans were soaring above feathering waves and plunging for fish.
As we pulled onto the road for home, storm clouds were gathering in the east and the hills of our town were autumn toned.

72 years ago today, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor that forced the United States into World War II. My dad enlisted in the Navy on his 17th birthday and served in the Marshall and Solomon Islands and the Philippines.
