With limited space in the stock room, we have a tendency to stack floor to ceiling. And just what is in all those boxes, you may ask? Vintage millinery flowers and leaves, mostly made in Germany and Czechoslovakia at the end of World War II.
My time has been devoted to sorting and organizing.
Fancy metallic sewing trims need to be wound onto cards.
Velvet leaves need to be separated by age, color and country of origin and then boxes labeled. It's satisfying work, where one can see instant results and the effort now makes life less complicated down the road.

We visited the people who produce the goods we sell.
Our vendors welcomed us like long lost family.
We were able to see how our beads, mushrooms and millinery flowers are manufactured, by hand, each and every one, utilizing techniques from the 1800s.
Appearances could be deceiving - what looked like a stately old home could just as easily be a bustling hive of creativity and the largest employer in the village.
