Tangled Web

Yesterday dawned foggy and damp, a relief after the 3 days of relentless heat.  A dedicated spider had spun an incredibly dense and wide web, cast across an entire spreading gallardia and anchored on golden feather chrysanthemums.

A closer look reveals the opening where the spider lurks, waiting patiently for an unsuspecting bug to alight.  The dew drops highlight the intricacy of the web, spun more densely the closer to the opening.
