On This Day In History

On this day in history, the first witch trial began in Salem, Massachusetts, Guglielmo Marconi applied for a patent for his invention - the radio, P.T. Barnum took his circus on its first US tour, and Elizabeth II was crowned Queen of England.  Born this day were John Randolph of Roanoke (pictured above, in a painting by Gilbert Stuart), Martha Washington, Johnny Weismuller and Charlie Watts.
