What's Blooming In Spring

Columbines look good even when they're not in bloom, with a lacy, fern like open foliage that rises above other plants. If you want the plant to reseed, wait until the flower stalk dries completely, cut it away and wave the pods upside down across your flower border - no need to even plant the seeds, as the hardiest will find their own way. The flowers look delicate, but they are much hardier than they appear.

I think this may be what we call fritillaries here in the UK GW - I have tried to grow them so often but obviously by soil is not to their liking.
