The Local Ice Cream Truck

This colorful ice cream truck speeds down the street most days, music jangling.

Recently, it stopped for the first time, when a lone customer was sighted.

Back when the Good Humor ice cream trucks plied their wares in the old neighborhood of by childhood, just blocks from here, the driver wore a white uniform and pulled frozen bars from behind swinging metal doors as frosted air billowed out. The picture below is by Doris Lentini, circa 1960.

i love the memory of the music, the bells, the unifrom, the little trucks, the service, the lineup, the first lick. the last lick. steven
