Along The Seashore

Nowadays, Venice Beach generally conjures up images of body builders and skateboarders. But back in 1907, Venice's Abbott Kinney Pier housed a large auditorium, Ship Cafe, shaped like a ship and a popular dance hall.

piers were a magic part of my english childhood with their food stalls, games, and especially the idea of walking out into the sea. this one looks huge and spectacular. steven

Reminds me of the pier in Daytona Beach back in the 50's, what a great boardwalk that was, with the band shell and carnival rides...a kid was in paradise!!!

Love seeing the old photos of California!
