100 Years Ago In Russia



This old Russian wooden sled was made in the 18th century and housed in the Rostov Museum. The silk brocade, called kamka, was still intact when photographed by Sergei Prokudin-Gorskii in 1911, outside the museum.

This has such a different look from the sleds used in New England during the same era, so commonly depicted in Currier and Ives engravings.
