I love the idea of general merchandise - it more or less covers everything - and in those days in probably had to.

Love the gas pump! Fill her up and hop in for your bits and bobs! Obviously they didn't worry about the flammability/explosion risk in the forties....

The background looks so...muted in comparison to the spanky frontage of the store - like scenery from a silent movie.
