American Country Stores ~ #11 In A Series

At the height of the Great Depression in October, 1939, Arthur Rothstein was in Lamoille, Iowa, documenting daily life for the Office Of War Information. He stopped by this country store and found a local boy enjoying a cold soda pop.

In the same store, the proprietor was grinding coffee beneath a large hanging stalk of ripening bananas.
