American Country Stores ~ #4 In A Series

Acclaimed photographer Dorothea Lange captured this image of customers relaxing on the porch of a country store on a Sunday afternoon. It was July, 1939, during the Great Depression in Gordonton, North Carolina. The brother of the owner stands in the doorway.

What a place... it looks like it can hardly stay up, it's so old! I like how such stores were once meeting places too--daily/weekly highlight for many.... Happy Day, Golden West :o) ((HUGS))

Lovely old picture GW. I love your Country Stores - have been in a few as I have travelled around US - we have nothing like them here.
And when there is a restaurant too they often make delicious clam chowder!
