Child Ballad #100

In the latter part of the 19th century, Francis James Child collected 305 traditional Scottish and English ballads, which were published in 10 volumes between 1882-1898. "Willie O Winsbury", Child Ballad #100, is sung in the video by Jacqui McShee of Pentangle. The Scottish folk ballad dates back to 1775. Pentangle recorded it on their 1972 "Solomon's Seal" album.

I love those traditional ballads - it would be such a shame if they were ever allowed to die out.
