And coreopsis and shasta daisies.

Another look at the railroad station here in town where my dad was telegrapher when he mustered out of the Navy at the end of World War II.

On this day in history, Queen Elizabeth I ordered the arrest of Mary, Queen of Scots, Oscar Wilde was released from prison, Anne Boleyn was beheaded, and Mexico ceded California, Nevada, Utah and parts of 4 other modern day states to the US in the Treaty of Hidalgo.  Born today were Johns Hopkins (pictured above), Ho Chi Minh, Malcolm X, Pol Pot, and Andre the Giant.

100 Years Ago

Just south, down the Coast Highway, some 100 years ago.

Blending In

Waiting patiently under the birdbath yielded nary a bird, so Thomas caught forty winks instead.

Looking Back

Here's one of our local beaches back in 1975 - it seemed crowded then!  Little did we know that would look almost deserted by today's standards.  Summer tourists arrive earlier and earlier every year.

What's Blooming In Spring

California poppies are bending under the weight of morning dew.

The swan river daisies are on the upswing while most of the other daisies that thrived all winter prepare to bow out until autumn.

Out The Window In The Mountains

The view from the third floor of the little penzion where we stayed last month, just south of the Polish border.

Up On The Roof

Thomas has always been territorial, but learning he reconnoiters from our rooftop came as a surprise.  A neighbor spotted him in action and captured the evidence with a cell phone in the dark of night.

Spring Day

60 degree water and next to zero waves don't deter my daughter from taking her paddle board for a spin if the sun's out.
