Out And About

From the early hours, the streets were filled with people.

The gentleman on the scooter looks stern, but once the photo was taken, he gave a smile and a wave.

This man had a bucket repair shop.

This lady surveyed the passing scene from her son's tire shop.  Below, almost all the young people were engrossed in hand held devices.

There And Back Again

No matter how interesting things are afield, it's always so great to be home.

No Detail Too Small

Two more pictures from last month's trip.  Above, a cast metal figural shutter stop and below, a cast iron door knocker on a circa 1400s castle.

Along City Streets

The view from the top of the hill,

taking a shortcut along an obscure alleyway,

another cafe scene and an old home that survived the bombing.

Down By The Riverside

Freezing temperatures didn't deter residents from their Sunday riverside walk.

Nor were bike riders deterred from gathering in the city center.

Day Trip

Another day, another train.

Into a forest, high on a hill,

with a golden domed church at the end of the trail.

More City Streets

The plaza in the city center had mineral springs,

colorful posters,

ornate buildings and colorful locals, taking the water.

The Art Of The Display

Many vendors went all out on their displays,

geared to separate themselves from their competitors

and spark the imagination of the largest number of buyers possible.

More Neighborhhood Walking

Walking tree-lined boulevards to the botanical gardens from my lodgings, rows of ornate villas lined both sides of the street.  Once embassies, having survived the bombing, they are now mostly professional offices.

The neighborhood flower stand.

Trams ran constantly and were never more than a few blocks away.  Below, old and new are side by side throughout the entire city.
