Yesterday On The Road

Business took me on the road yesterday.  Unexpectedly, there was a deserted carnival along the way.

We rolled up to it over straw that had been scattered to cover puddles from last week's rain.

Walking In The Neighborhood

My daughter joined me for a walk around the neighborhood yesterday.  Ice plant is blooming something fierce right now, enticing bees with pollen laden pistils.

African daisies are used frequently as ground cover around here and make a cheerful carpet in sunny patches.

These random tulips were a surprise, blooming at the side of the road.  Lastly, a neighborhood walk is never complete without a fence charge and serious squawking from a half crazed goose.

Spring Sunrise

A few rainclouds gathering at sunrise, just now, looking west out my kitchen window.

Cherry Pie

My daughter brought me a cherry pie from the fruit stand - yum!

Thomas In Spring

Thomas in spring isn't so different thus far from Thomas in winter.  He's still content with a bowl of turkey in the morning and a nap into the afternoon.

What's Blooming In Winter

Flowers are abundant this time of year, with purslanes, above, and California poppies, below, taking center stage.

My Mother's Clivias

My mom always had the greenest thumb.  She had my sister split her prize yellow clivia a couple years back to share with us.  Mine is planted right out the kitchen window, thriving and multiplying, where it can be enjoyed every day.

Brown Squirrels And Silver Seas

We've had a run of mid 70 degree days this week, with breeze whipped waves

Seagulls overhead...

And squirrels underfoot, all eager to share our fries.

The bright winter sun turned the water silver.

Rain At Last

Hurray for the rain storm!

Before The Storm

Rain is on the way, we're told.  The storm is out to sea, coming down from the north, circling around and then moving in from the south, probably tonight.

A woman in a wedding gown was on the sand, getting her makeup done and having photos taken.

Two hooded hunters searched for buried bounty.

And upon my return, a warm greeting from a cool cat.

Yesterday On The Beach

It was low tide in the afternoon yesterday, sunny and bright with a cool breeze.

The outgoing tide left flowing patterns all along the sand.

How Scrabble Went Awry

Every Sunday my dad comes over for breakfast and a game or two of Scrabble.  At 87, he still finishes the New York Times crossword puzzle daily, so besting him is a challenge.  Yesterday my daughter stopped by and joined us for a round, which ended abruptly when Thomas the cat decided he wasn't getting enough attention and jumped onto the table, scattering tiles.
